EDUCATION

Residential Track:

September 26, 2023

2018 IRC Sites, Soils, Footings, Foundations and Locations on the Lot w/ Indiana Amendments (6-hours)

  • This seminar provides in-depth training on the IRC code provisions for getting a “building out of the ground.” The seminar is applicable to all aspects of the regulatory/design/construction community, including contractors, design professionals, plans examiners and inspectors. Major topics include Soils and Geotechnical Reports, Soils Drainage, Use of Prescriptive Tables, Slabs on Ground, Slope Requirements, Basements and Crawl Spaces.

September 27, 2023

2018 IRC Essentials w/ Indiana Amendments (6-hours)

  • This seminar examines basic concepts of the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC) that provide a basis for the correct utilization of the code. A clear understanding of the identified requirements allows the code user to apply the IRC in specific situations and helps to build an understanding of the code’s intended application. This seminar will also help the code user to correctly locate the applicable code requirements.

Residential Instructor:

Sandra Hyde, P.E. Senior Staff Engineer

Sandra Hyde, P.E. is a Staff Engineer with the ICC Product Development Group where she develops and reviews technical resources dealing with the structural provisions of the codes. Sandra has developed technical seminars for the IBC and IRC highlighting code changes. She has experience in manufacturing and research with an engineered wood products company. With a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering, Sandra is a Registered Civil Engineer in Idaho and California, a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Idaho and the local and state chapters of building officials.

Commercial Track:

September 26, 2023

2012 IFC Flammable Finishes (3-hours)

  • Participants will be better able to have a basic understanding of the hazards and the requirements for various flammable finishing activities based on the provisions in the 2012 International Fire Code (IFC), 2012 International Mechanical Code (IMC), and the 2008 National Electrical Code.

2012 IFC/IBC High-Piled Storage (3-hours)

  • This seminar provides a basic understanding of the hazards associated with high-piled combustible storage and introduces the participants to the provisions in Chapter 32 of the 2012 International Fire Code (IFC). In addition, because of the importance of automatic sprinkler systems in the protection of high-piled combustible storage, the seminar places special emphasis on the classification of commodities and understanding the design criteria in NFPA 13 for storage.

September 27, 2023

2012 IFC & IBC Fire Protection Systems w/ Indiana Amendments (6-hours)

  • This seminar is designed to guide participants through the 2012 IBC and IFC requirements related to fire protection systems (Chapter 9). The topics addressed include suppression systems, standpipe systems, automatic fire alarm systems, automatic detection systems and additional fire protection assemblies. Because the 2012 IFC and Chapter 9 of the 2012 IBC have such broad scopes, the focus of this seminar is to review design, construction, inspection and testing requirements for the various systems.

Commercial Instructor:

Terrell Stripling

Terrell is a seasoned instructor with 20 years of fire service experience and has also worked in the construction industry.  He holds a B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University in Fire Protection Engineering and Technology.  His experience in fire prevention, code management and the ability to effectively communicate a pro-active philosophy is reflected in Terrell’s passion for education.  At the college level, he has served in the positions of Department Chair and adjunct professor in the Fire Science Department.  He utilizes the theory of the code along with hands-on practical application to achieve ICC’s vision of “Protecting the health, safety, and welfare of people creating better buildings and safer communities.”
