Wood Use in All Types of Construction

A training seminar sponsored by the Indiana Association of Building Officials, Inc. a chapter of the International Code Council, Inc.


Date: Wednesday, April 19, 2023

  • Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • There will be 1-hour allotted for lunch (lunch will not be provided)
  • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Location:  Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St., Zionsville, IN 46077

Parking:  Attendees SHOULD NOT park at Zionsville Town Hall Parking has been coordinated at Kroger and Zionsville Christian Church.  The registration confirmation email will include the map showing where parking is available and how to get to the Town Hall via sidewalks/trails.

This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's.  PPN # 1060-35921


Course Description:

Presented by Hoover Treated Wood Products, this seminar will explore the uses, code requirements, and where applicable the testing and labeling of wood in the International Building Code.  Discussion will include the allowable heights and areas, lumber grading, fire resistance of untreated wood, as well as the code requirements and code recognition of fire-retardant treated wood and preservative treated wood.


Instructor:  Jim Gogolski

Jim Gogolski is a Code/Technical Representative with Hoover Treated Wood Products, Inc., educating architects, engineers, building code officials and fire officials on the many uses of fire-retardant treated wood in the building code and industry standards.  Before Hoover, Jim worked with APA – The Engineered Wood Association as a Field Representative and administered their field inspection service. He also worked for a wood preservative supplier and the Southern Forest Products Association.  Jim’s technical knowledge as well as experience in the building codes, the uses of wood in construction and field inspections brings a unique perspective to his programs.

Jim is a member of the International Codes Council and the National Fire Protection Association. At NFPA, he is on their 1140 Committee, Standard for Wildland Fire Protection.

Jim holds a B.S. in Wood Products Technology from The Ohio State University, Columbus, and an MBA from Xavier University, Cincinnati.


Registration Deadline:

The registration deadline is April 14, 2023 at 11:59 pm.  No registrations will be received after March 10 and no walk-ins will be allowed the day of the training.

After registration is successfully submitted a confirmation email will be sent to the email address entered during registration.


Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing no later than April 14, 2023 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $50.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.


Attendance Notice Regarding Certificates/Funding: 

Indiana Association of Building Officials is committed to complying with the requirements of the Division of Fire and Building Safety, as they administer the education fund.

As Indiana Association of Building Officials submits the request for funding on behalf of the membership, IABO will not submit an attendee’s name who does NOT attend the entire class; failure to attend the entire class renders that attendee ineligible for funding.
