2020 Indiana Residential Code:  Building Safety Features

A training seminar sponsored by the Indiana Association of Building Officials, Inc. a chapter of the International Code Council, Inc.


Date: February 20, 2020

  • Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
  • Class will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • There will be 1-hour allotted for lunch (lunch will not be provided)
  • Class will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Cost*:

Member $100, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Non-member:  $125, this fee will cover the instructor and materials

Lunch will not be provided


*IABO has applied for funding through the Statewide Fire and Building Safety Education Fund (675 IAC 12-11).  Please DO NOT pay in advance as an invoice will be sent following the class.


This course consists of six contact hours and earns 0.6 ICC PPN CEU's. 


Course Description:

This seminar addresses the critical concepts of the 2020 Indiana Residential Code regarding fire and life safety issues.  These concepts provide a basis for the correct use of the code in building planning, fire-resistance, means of egress, emergency escape and rescue, safety glazing and other building safety provisions.  Discussion relates to the design, plan review and inspection decisions necessary to ensure safe residential buildings complying with the 2020 InRC.

Building Inspector, Retired; 12 years construction experience as self-employed contractor, 30 years inspection experience (10 years building inspector, 5 years plans examiner, 15 years building official) including single and multi-family residential, educational, industrial, business and mercantile occupancies including the Mall of America; Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Education, University of Minnesota; Associate in Applied Science Degree in Building Inspection Technology, Inver Hills Community College; State of Minnesota Certified Building Official; Multiple International Code Council Certifications; ICC instructor; instructor for Housing and Building Inspection Institute at UW-Madison College of Engineering; instructor for MN Licensed Residential Contractor continuing education seminars; past Chairman, and past Executive Officer of the Association of MN Building Officials; active member of the Association of MN Building Officials, the 10,000 Lakes Chapter, MN Building Permit Technicians and the Upper Great Plains Region III Chapters of the International Code Council.


Registration Deadline:

The registration deadline is February 13, 2020 or until we have reached 100 registrations.  Registrations received after February 13 will not be guaranteed class materials at the time of class.

After registration is successfully submitted a confirmation email will be sent to the email address entered during registration.


Cancellation Policy:
All cancellations must be received in writing no later than February 13, 2020 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $50.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.


Attendance Notice Regarding Certificates/Funding: 

Indiana Association of Building Officials is committed to complying with the requirements of the Division of Fire and Building Safety, as they administer the education fund.

As Indiana Association of Building Officials submits the request for funding on behalf of the membership, IABO will not submit an attendee’s name who does NOT attend the entire class; failure to attend the entire class renders that attendee ineligible for funding.
