FIRESTOPPING - Plan Review and Inspection

Firestopping has become a hot topic because of the new ICC Firestop Inspector Certification and the Firestop Inspector requirements in the 2012 International Building Code (IBC).  This training will be offered by a code professional that will provide Firestopping tips and techniques for Plans Examiners and Inspectors.  We will focus on understanding the requirements of sections 714 and 715 of the 2012 IBC.  Focusing on joint systems, perimeter containment, through and membrane-penetrations.  All of the firestopping significant changes of the 2012 IBC including the new ASTM firestop inspection standards.  This program will also provide helpful hints for plans examiners and inspectors.


Goal:  Participants will be able to apply the 2014 Indiana Building Code for plan review and inspection.


Objectives:  Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be better able to:

  • Locate general topics in the 2014 InBC.
  • Apply code requirements to clear-cut, real world situations.
  • Use judgment to identify borderline scenarios as compliant or noncompliant.

Materials:

  • Bring your copy of the 2014 Indiana Building Code (2012 International Building Code and 2014 Indiana Amendments.)
Instructor:  Brice Miller has over 25 years' experience as Building Official, Inspector and Plans Examiner and holds four International Code Council (ICC) certifications.  He speaks to code officials throughout the country on firestopping, proposed the ICC firestop inspector certification that will start in 2015, and was instrumental in the development of the new ICC book, titled Firestopping, Joint Systems and Dampers.  Brice is Past President of the Colorado Chapter of ICC plus he has served on ICBO and ICC education certification committees including the ICC Board of International Professional Standards and the IBC General Code Development Committee.  He is also a part time code instructor for a local community college in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Brice recently served for 2 1/2 years as the Executive Director of the International Firestop Council.


Please register no later than one week prior to class date.  Registrations received after Wednesday, July 29th will not be guaranteed class materials at the time of class.


Cancellation Policy - All cancellations must be received in writing no later than July 31, 2015 to avoid penalty.  All late cancellations and no shows will be billed $10.  Faxed cancellations must be verified they were received.  It is the responsibility of the registrant to make the verification.  Emergencies will be dealt with on an individual basis.
