Certification
There are three national certification
programs (examinations) on construction code technology available to the fire
and building officials and inspectors in Indiana.
They are:
ICC
and
IFCI. The International
Code Council and the International Fire
Code Institute conduct voluntary certification
programs on all of the Uniform codes and the NEC. Those exams applicable to
Indiana include Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Mechanical
Inspector, Plans Examiner, and Uniform Fire Code Inspector. The exams carry no
guarantee that they will be a credential for a successful participant in terms
of recognition by any governmental jurisdiction. However, the program enjoys
the high reputation of reliably measuring a participant's code proficiency.
ICC's
CBO. The The International Code Council conducts an exam twice yearly for their Certified Building
Official Designation. This certificate enhances the professionalism of the
building code enforcement officer, and acknowledges that officer's
professional capability in technical, legal, and managerial categories.

certification programs, please contact TSREI (Technical Services Research
